New International Travel Procedures

Passports now required for all international travel, including Mexico & Canada

New rules now in effect make traveling to and from Mexico and Canada a little bit more secure, if a bit more of a hassle.  All travelers must have a passport when traveling internationally.  This includes children and infants as well.  Up until recently, all that was required for travel to and from Mexico and Canada was proof of U.S. citizenship.  This meant you could travel back and forth with only a birth certificate.  This is no longer the case.  In order to gain entry in to the U.S., a valid passport is required.  If you need information on obtaining a U.S. passport, please follow this link to the the State Department's travel website.  For more information, call us at the the office and we'll be happy to help.

Airlines Charging Additional Fees to Offset Rising Fuel Costs

In an effort to offset the effects of rising fuel costs, airlines have recently instituted additional fees in addition to the fuel surcharges that have been added to the cost of tickets.  Most major airlines have increased exchange fees from $100 to$150.  Additionally, checked baggage may cost $15 for the first piece to $25 for the second piece.  While all airlines have not followed suit on these charges, we expect that the pressure of rising fuel costs will make these charges more common on all carriers.  If you'd like to know the specific rules and fees for upcoming travel, please call our office and our agents will be happy to help you.
